The company Gorenje will close its production in Rogatec in August 2025, where they currently manufacture components for refrigeration and freezing appliances. By the end of this year, they will significantly reduce the scope of production at this location. All 120 employees will be offered the opportunity to work in other Gorenje plants in Velenje, and in case of refusal, they will be paid severance, the company announced.

Gorenje explained that they are deciding to close the plant in Rogatec because the production of components there is no longer competitive. The production of refrigeration and freezing appliances, for which these components are made, has been carried out in Valjevo, Serbia, for many years.

»Due to strong price pressure in the production of appliances, we will source components from external suppliers after the plant closure. Additionally, some lines of refrigeration and freezing appliances, for which we manufactured components in Rogatec, are no longer in production, or the appliances no longer require such components that we can still manufacture in Rogatec,« Gorenje explained.

The company will offer all employees the possibility of relocation to suitable positions in factories in Velenje, where they will also organize bus transportation. Gorenje wants to retain experienced workers, as they are urgently needed in their factories.

Since the traffic connection to Rogatec is poor and the drive in one direction would take more than an hour, employees who accept work in Velenje will be offered a special salary supplement. Those who do not wish to transfer will receive severance pay.

The plant in Rogatec will be permanently closed at the end of next year, and the company plans to sell the facility along with the land.

Gorenje, which has been owned by the Chinese Hisense since 2018, has three plants in Slovenia (Velenje, Šoštanj, and Rogatec) and a factory in Valjevo, as well as a plant in the Czech Republic.
